Hi, I’m W. Owens
What drew you to writing?
My writing started as diary entries. There were a lot of family changes from the age of twelve through my teens, and this was a way to put all of my thoughts down, or in some instances, creating imagery to remove myself from the reality of what was happening in my life.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in everyday things. It can be as simple as watching a movie or overhearing a conversation. Maybe people watching as I grab something to eat or run an errand. My mind wanders to different scenarios and stories that can take place.
Who are your favorite authors?
Yasin Angoe, V.C. Andrews, Deanna Lynn Sletten-but there are many more.
Out of the books / stories you’ve written so far, which is your favorite and why?
In Safe Arms is my favorite book for the soul purpose of it being my first release and the way I captured the story of two individuals who would had never have met if not for the circumstances of a murder.
Is there a single theme or purpose behind the stories you write?
No, it’s however my mind travels through the thought process with the birth of a story and how much my heart flutters as ideas formulate.
What do you want most for your readers to think / feel / come away with after having read one of your stories / books?
I want to know that my readers are able to fully capture what I convey through scenes, conversations, thoughts, and actions in my words. If a reader tells me they could ‘see’ what I wrote, I did my job right. If a reader can overlook minor errors and still be engaged, it’s a win. If a reader finishes my book and says, “Wow, that was good,” I want to make the next one even better.
How long does it take you from start to finish to write a story or novel?
It depends on whether I made a personal deadline for completion. As a self-published author, I have flexibility to release work. I’ve completed a project in six months, but I have also completed a project in two years.
If you’re working on a series of books, Which books in the series are available and how soon until the next one is released?
I have two series currently I’m working on, The first-Linear Brothers Rescue and Recovery Series, is winding down with the fourth and final book, which I plan to release later in 2026. The other three books in the series are available for purchase as paperbacks or e-books. The Sabinet Crest Series, so far, has one out of two or three books available, with the next book having a projected date of 2027.
Do you work a “day job” and if so, how does that factor into your writing?
I do and it’s full-time at that. I make it point when I have a project to carve out at least thirty minutes a day to write. You’ll find me either on my lunch break, or at home with music playing in the background while dinner is cooking, getting words down, or spending time right before bed somewhere in a quiet part of my house.
What, when, and where is your next event?
I will be with the Colorado Traveling Market throughout the year, promoting my small business, Fantabulous Words at various senior living communities and pop-up shops through 2026.
